If we could all live like Phil it would be wonderful! We sat near each other at St. Mike’s and John, the boys and I all have fond memories of his welcoming kindness.
When John and I celebrated our 25th anniversary we ran into Meryl and Phil very happily celebrating their 65th! Their love for each other was obvious! We will miss Phil greatly and send our condolences to Meryl and the family.

To Meryl and family. Our sincere condolences on Phil's passing. He was a great and friendly guy and we enjoyed our times together for many years in the square and round dance community. Also in later years at the monthly alumni luncheons. Even with his health problems he was always upbeat and friendly.

Dear Meryl and Family
We are truly sorry for your loss. Phil’s cheerful presence and giving spirit will be greatly missed by us.
We have known Phil for over 20 years and we were lucky to share many chats after church or stories at the lawn bowling club of which he contributed his time greatly. We mostly remember how much he spread joy to everyone and everything he did. His kindness inspired us and we will treasure our fond memories forever.

When I was 3 years old, I had a frightening experience with the “boogie man” one night. My 18 year old Uncle Phil came into my room and wrestled that boogie man into a box. The next morning he took me to the cove at the end of the street and we threw that box into the cove. Thank you Uncle for your kindness, sensitivity, and intuition. That day you taught me a lesson that has lasted for 70 years. The world is a better place because you were here.

Tanya Sweeney
(Tuesday, February 2, 2021)

Growing up at St. Mike's I have a couple of really fantastic memories of Phil. Growing up, he always showed interest in me, asked me about school, violin etc. One year when I was about ten, we were doing the annual Good Friday Walk-and collecting pledges. Phil pledged me $50.00! I couldn't believe it. I won for collecting the most pledges that year.
My second memory is of a Christmas eve when I was a server-I went downstairs, feeling unwell, and promptly threw up on the floor. Somehow Phil found out about it and by the time my Mom got down there, Phil was already cleaning it up. Mom and I were talking about these two memories the other day. Phil was a very caring man and I'll remember him fondly from my years in the St. Mike's family-being 'raised by the community'. My sincere condolences. Tanya Sweeney

I'm very sorry to hear about Phil. To me, he was a neighbourhood fixture, always with a warm, kind, so-friendly, happy and sincere greeting. I always remember Phil and Meryl, dropping in one time at my parents' Pinewood house, dressed as Raggedy Andy and Ann (to be clear, it was on Halloween). I was visiting with my own very young kids and have a vivid memory of the night...such a clear memory. Condolences to Meryl, David, Tom and Diane.
