Our family wants to say how very sorry we are to hear of Ian's passing and extend our sincere sympathy and condolences to the MacLean family. When reading Ian's obituary, Silvia had written that the greatest gift that Ian left behind, was his love for his family. Truly a gift which no monetary amount can be attached.
Ian's extended family, "The Gilchrist's" were also privileged and fortunate to be recipients of Ian's love for family. We remember distinctly when there was a death in the family, Ian who in most cases had just finished working his night shift, would always drive up from London, attend the funeral plus accompany the procession to the cemetery. Knowing he would have to make the long trek back to London, to work another night shift. That's what family met to Ian.
Bi-yearly Ian and Silvia always took time from their busy schedules to visit our parents Ron and Jean. Our parents were both so happy and excited when Ian phoned to say they would be dropping in. Their visits were highly treasured and cherished. When our parents were dying, Ian and Sylvia made a special trip each time from London, to personally say their final farewell. Without a doubt, this gesture met so much to our parents and family.
Ian spoke often of his wife and his children, he was definitely a family man. For fathering is not something perfect men do, but something that perfects the man.

Dear MacLean family, I am very sorry to hear of Ian’s passing. He was a huge part of growing up for so many of us. Every summer I looked forward to the soccer season with Coach, Pete, Chris, and Mike (and Dan & Silvia on the sidelines cheering us on). To this day, I still think of you all fondly whenever I pass a soccer field or watch a game on TV. Thank you, Ian, for teaching us about sportsmanship, what it means to be a team, and instilling in us the importance of hard work. I’ll never forget your whiteboard for drawing up plays, or the words of encouragement to get us moving like only Coach could give. Thank you, Ian, for giving me the push to get out and give my best. Your lessons haven’t been forgotten. My heartfelt condolences and much love to you all.

Sincerely,
Jonathan
